If you haven’t made any New Year’s resolutions, yet, that’s ok. 2017 has just begun. If you want an idea for a resolution you can actually keep, consider these resolutions for your car.
- Drive more efficiently. Being an inefficient driver not only wastes your money, but it’s bad for the environment, too. One of the biggest dings to your efficiency is aggressive driving. In fact, doing things like speeding and accelerating too quickly can decrease your efficiency by as much as 35%.
- Stop idling. Letting your engine run while you’re not going anywhere is a complete waste of gas. If you’re going to stop for longer than you normally would at a stoplight or stop sign, just turn off the engine. You should also avoid “warming up” your car before you leave in the morning. The fastest way to warm it up is just by driving.
- Keep up with your maintenance. Check in your owner’s manual and you should find a recommended service schedule that includes things like oil changes, tire rotations, and more. Get caught up on this to ensure your car runs the way it should for years to come.
- Don’t run on empty. Try not to let your tank fall below one-quarter full. In the winter, keep it at least half full to prevent frozen fuel lines.
