Hyundai is developing technologies to help keep you safe behind the wheel, including one recent development that is designed to detect road rage. The system is a cockpit that measures the physical and mental state of drivers, helping to detect mood with face recognition, among other technologies. This could just be one of the most advanced safety systems developed to date.
According to CNBC, the Hyundai concept cockpit is designed to track a number of signs, from heat rate, posture, and breathing to facial recognition. By measuring these things, this innovative system can determine when you’re alert or angry, and it can make changes to the atmosphere of driving. This includes seat positioning, heating, lighting, temperature, volume, and even smells.
Measuring a driver’s mental state will help to keep the “optimum health and mental attitude” for safe driving, said Mike O’Brien, the VP at Hyundai, during this year’s Consumer Electronics Show.
Believe it or not, about 80% of drivers show symptoms of road rage, which can do serious damage. Driving while emotional can cause speeding, rapid acceleration, hard brakes, and more—all of which increases the risk of an accident. This new Hyundai safety cockpit could just keep you better protected than ever before.
